BIO

The Sensational Barnes Brothers are a musical blend of old and new, a real gem in the gospel/soul scene. As PopMatters states, “The brothers run through a spectrum of moods and modes in their gospel soul, often bridging the gap between, say, the Soul Stirrers and Stax, all the while keeping a local flavor.” The brothers can dive deep into their roots, creating a sound that reflects the music of their history, all the while drawing in a modern-day audience.

In 2023, they took their gospel magic on the road for the first time, wowing audiences at festivals all over the US, from Sisters Folk Festival, to Rocky Mountains Folks Festival to Freshgrass Festival, and many more.

These talented brothers made their mark with their first album - Nobody’s Fault But My Own -  under Bible and Tire Recording Co. Fat Possum. Inspired by their shared past, fueled by harmonies that resonate with both their blood and their kindred souls, The Sensational Barnes Brothers are here to stay, singing, playing, and dancing for a long, long time. Their new album of all originals will be released in fall 2024.

“The brothers run through a spectrum of moods and modes in their gospel soul, often bridging the gap between, say, the Soul Stirrers and Stax, all the while keeping a local flavor.” — PopMatters

“That balance of commercial optimism and preacherly purpose—one might say sacred and profane—is evident in the Barneses themselves.” — VICE

“The Sensational Barnes Brothers effectively capture the sound of Memphis during the heyday of Stax Records, the Bar-Kays, and Booker T. & the M.G.s., providing us with some sensational gospel soul.” —Black Grooves

“The Barnes Brothers sounds more like a gospel record that was made in the late '60s or early '70s. I just want to make gospel records that sound like those gospel records I like to find in junk stores or record stores.” — Bruce Watson (Guitarist of Big Country)

“The Barnes Brothers pair uplifting lyrics with emotional melodies that are altered each and every time they are sung.” — Blues Rock Review
