Memphis-based band, Marcella & her Lovers, known for their electric live shows are back performing in the Bluff City, however this time you don't have to leave the comfort of your home to experience the intensity of vibrant frontwoman Marcella Simien and her band. On September 17, 2021 fans will be able to bring this band home with the release of Marcella & her Lovers latest album Live From Memphis.

This album encapsulates the band’s charismatic powerful performance at Railgarten in Memphis, TN on October 31, 2020, a show that amplified Simien’s hybrid Memphis soul, and freewheeling New Orleans funk swagger. Music is intended to transport you, take you somewhere you have never been, and Simien’s multifaceted background not only as a musician but as a human does just that. The incorporation of the single row diatonic Creole Zydeco style accordion and the Frottoir (otherwise known as the washboard or rubboard), to honor her homeland of southwest Louisiana intertwined with poetic lyricism and sounds of Memphis blues we hold dear to our hearts is proof that Marcella Simien cannot be boxed in.

Live From Memphis will feature a healthy dose of original songs from the Got You Found album including the title track, along with fan favorites “En Chaleur” and “Where You Are.”

“I have diverse taste in music and always have,” Simien says, and you can look forward to hearing her renditions of classics “Voodoo Woman,” “Break in the Road,” and “Funkier than a Mosquito’s Tweeter,” on Marcella & her Lovers’ Live From Memphis.

Capturing the vibrancy of a live performance can be difficult, Simien states, “this body of work is near and dear to my heart.” As it is her way of paying homage to her “extended family” Art Neville and Mac Rebennack by covering The Meters’ “Hey Pocky Way” transitioning into Dr. John’s “Gris Gris Gumbo Ya Ya.”

And if purchasing Live From Memphis still isn't enough, Marcella Simien and her band will be back on stage at the Orion Free Music Concert Series at the Levitt Shell at 7 p.m. on September 17, 2021.

“I’m so proud of this piece of work and so proud of this band that I am so lucky to share the stage with,” said Simien. Musicians performing on Live From Memphis include Landon Moore on bass, Steve Selvidge on guitar, Robinson Bridgeforth on drums, and Art Edmaiston on sax.
