Bay Rising, the Bay Area's second annual battle of the bands hosted exclusively by Yonas Media, is accepting submissions from local independent artists of all genres from May 1, 2008 through July 15th, 2008. Musicians can submit their applications through Sonicbids or by mail to: Yonas Media at 1625 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94612.

Five bands from the Bay Area's top choice talent will be selected to perform at The Great American Music Hall in front of hundreds of fans and a panel of judges to compete for prizes valued at over $10,000. Grand Prize includes a five-day recording package at Yonas Media's new Oakland Recording Studio (see picture below)

One day of Mixing/Mastering by award winning engineer Charles Stella, manufacturing of 1,000 CDs from Copy Cats Media, and 2 months of artist development from Yonas Media's Fuze Management. Second through fifth place will receive various prizes ranging from microphones to production/recording software to online promotion.

In the semifinal round, scheduled for Aug 4-5, 10 bands/artists will perform for the panel of judges. Five bands will advance to the final showdown, set for August 27th @ The Great American Music Hall.

FORREST DAY & KID BEYOND HEAD UPTOWN!

Singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist/ indie/rap/experimental Forrest Day, whose smart lyrics and catchy hooks defy categorization but attract fans of all stripes, will be at Oakland's favorite spot for DJs, bands and drinks, The Uptown, on Saturday, June 7th. Sharing equal billing is Kid Beyond, the self proclaimed "singer, beat-boxer, live looper, one-man band." Also on the bill will be the debut of The Secret City Allstars, featuring Dublin and DJ Aspect of The Shotgun Wedding Quintet and Soulati of Felonious.

Friday, June 13th, is going to be a lucky day this year! Yonas Media artists and Bay Area locals, Joe Bagale and the Shotgun Wedding Quintet are slated for a double bill at the Shattuck Down Low in Berkeley on Friday, June 13th. The soulful Mr. Bagale, riding high after his boffo CD release show, and The Dirty Workshop will be bringing it on theSpencer picture 1, if you can dig it, Jack! MC Dublin and the ever-inventive Shotgun Wedding Quintet round out this night of good fortune. So keep your fingers crossed, don't break any mirrors, don't step on any cracks, watch out for black cats, and don't miss this show.

Spencer Day returns to The Rrazz Room @ Hotel Nikko in SF June 17th -21st.
