Dave Samuels' Caribbean Jazz Project Receive Rave Reviews on Recent West Coast Run

May 16th saw the historic reunion the of critically-acclaimed Caribbean Jazz Project's founding members, master-vibist Dave Samuels and virtuoso sax player, Paquito D'Rivera, for a one-night-only, headlining set at LA's prestigious 'Latin Jazz Festival'. Reserved for Grammy recognized artists "who have played a significant role in the development and popularization of Latin Jazz", this year's festival garnered rave reviews for Samuels, D'Rivera and their special surprise guests, steel pannist Liam Teague and actor/bongo player Andy Garcia: "The band ... played a tightly arranged but confidently relaxed set that explored the wide harmonic possibilities of the music ... including a foray into Brazilian bossa nova with a version of "One for Tom" ... that beautifully balanced the tune's blend of jauntiness and wistfulness" (Los Angeles Times).

After selling out the Greek Theatre, Samuels headed north with his new Grammy-winning CJP ensemble inspired by his recent collaboration with the Afro Bop Alliance. Featuring Alain Mallet (piano), Lincoln Goines (bass), Vince Cherico (drums) and Roberto Quintero (percussion), the band packed houses in some of the West Coasts most acclaimed venues, including Yoshi's San Francisco and Seattle's Dimitriou's Jazz Alley.

Dave is currently looking forward to a highly anticipated string of shows in Europe along with several other festival appearances this summer. Check out www.dsamuels.com for more details.
